Data Walls
Data Walls help move teachers toward building collective efficacy.
'Collective teacher efficacy (CTE) refers to a staff’s shared belief that through their collective action, they can positively influence student outcomes, including those who are disengaged and/or disadvantaged.' (Jenni Donohoo | January 9, 2017)
The Victorian DET states that 'Data walls put student faces on performance data and promote rich conversations about teaching practice. These simple, visual representations of student achievement bring student outcomes out of individual classrooms and build collective responsibility for student progress.'
Above is a video from the DET about how Carlton Gardens uses data walls to inform teaching practice, effectively monitor student growth and build teacher capacity to achieve great learning outcomes for all students.
This approach was used at the school I previously taught at, and is something I would like to bring about at my current school. My aim is to lead the change around data driven teaching beginning with reading which is a major AIP goal for the school and, to build teacher efficacy using this strategy for monitoring student learning.
