Gradual Release of Responsibility
The use of the Gradual Release of Responsibility model as outlined by Pearson & Gallagher (1983) has long been an effective way to increase student ownership of learning and allows them to take responsibility for learning in a supported and scaffolded way.
Recently, Instagram has offered me a range of new ideas and strategies for outlining the learning taking place in the classroom to the students so that they know their responsibilities. For many years, the idea that learning is not a 'secret' to students has been shared via learning intentions and success criteria, but using the following strategy as given to me via @teachwithmissd will explicitly show students the stage of learning and teaching we are at.
The document that I created was printed onto sticker paper which is A4 from Officeworks. I used the circle to proportion the lettering so that I knew it would fit onto the Bunnings lights that come in a 2 Pack for $9.99.
Here is how they turned out. I chose to cut around the outside of the lettering instead of individually.
If you would like the template for the lights that I used click here for the document.
Happy Scaffolding!
