Get Epic! Really...

It's been hailed at the Netflix of Libraries! and boy are they right!

This online library is free for educators, all you need to do is make an account and you are on your way.

Recently I presented to my colleagues about the wonders of Epic and how easy it is to set up. In my classroom, I'm fortunate enough to have 5 iPads for student use so during purposeful reading activities it's great to be able to offer students a wider range of texts to read, other than our classroom library. PLUS they can search for their interests and find texts appropriate to their age or level.

Now, to set up student accounts, it is quite simple (much like studyladder for those who know about that!). You can enable home access and choose to use passwords if you wish. You click + Create Profile. If you have a Google Classroom you can also import your class from there.

Once my students log in with our classroom code, they log into their avatar and can begin searching for books, do quizzes or look at books that I have selected and made into a collection.

The above picture shows how the dashboard looks on an iPad screen. There is an Epic! app or alternatively, you can use the internet browser as a platform to log in.

As a teacher, some of the things you can do are:

- Curate your own Library Collections and save books into them.

- Curate collections for student use.

- Search for already made Collections from other educators.

I highly recommend that you create an Epic! account today. You won't regret it!
